Memorial Weekend

I just got back from a little family vacation and I wanted to post for a second. This weekend was filled with movies and games and laughter and fun. It is so fun to be together as a family and take a little break from our everyday lives.

But it is also so important to remember the reason we have Memorial Day. It is a day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending our nation. It is one of the most solemn holidays of the year.

I have spent time in many special places remembering the soldiers of this nation. This picture is the flag that waves above the USS Arizona Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii, to remember those that died at Pearl Harbor.
I spent time in Gettysburg and I will never forget the feeling of looking over the huge fields where so many died and reading the inscriptions on the memorials that are now there.
And visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Arlington Cemetery was one of the most humbling things I have ever done. I was so proud of our country and was filled with so much gratitude for the men and women who laid down their lives for my county and my freedom. All of our Freedom.
I love our country and I am proud to be an American. As I sit here typing on the computer, there is a large American Flag hanging on the wall to my right. I made a promise a long time ago that I would never forget the sacrafice of so many people for me. Most of these people have never met me, but they were willing to give it all to secure our Freedom. Thank you so much and I will never forget!
God Bless America and God Bless our Troops!

Proud of my sweet husband!!!

I just wanted to take a sec and tell everyone how proud I am of Richard. As most of you know, Richard is one of the hardest working men on Earth. He has been working and going to school (both full time) for a while now. He is graduating the end of the summer and then starting graduate school in the Midwest.
One HUGE thing that I am really proud of him for is that he made the Dean's List this last semester!!! He was taking some crazy classes (i.e. Physics 2 and his Capstone classes) and he did so awesome!!! He worked so hard and he was the top of all his classes.
I love Richard so much and I am really proud of how hard he works and how he is so focused on a great future for our family! What an awesome man!!!
I love you, Richard!

Becky vs the old scale!!!

This is going to be one of those funny posts that I can just laugh at. I have been working out and working on losing weight for almost 5 months and I have lost over 35lbs. Still more to go, but it's great to be making progress. I think I am probably lighter than I have been in 4 or 5 years. So yeay!!!
Ok, now the funny story. We have this scale that has been around a while and I get on it at least 3 or 4 times a week. Well, this morning, I thought, "Let's see how we are doing this week". So I step onto the scale (not super hard or anything) and there is a CRACK sound. I just thought to myself, "Great, I broke the scale. I am so fat, I broke the scale!!!! Why, now, is this happening? I am thinner than I was 5 months ago. Why didn't the scale break 5 months ago?".
It was just one of those things that you don't want to have happen to you while you are trying to lose weight and get into shape!!! No one wants to step onto the scale and hear it break!! (0:
Well, one of the brackets broke off because it was so old. But man, what a crappy way to start the day, huh????
Don't worry. Things are great and I just laughed!!! So now I get to buy a new scale and keep working out!!!
Moral of the story: You never know when your scale may break, so use it while you can!!! (0:

A Weekend in St. George

May 3rd, 2008
We just spent the weekend down in St. George for Richard's brothers wedding. We have been so excited for this wedding and it was such an awesome day!!! The girls were so happy and excited about being there (not that you can tell by Rachel's face) and seeing the bride and groom (Jon and Jan). It is so amazing to be there when a new family is created! What a blessing to see two amazing people sealed for time and all eternity. What a beautiful and sweet day that we will never forget. Being married is awesome and amazing and one of the hardest things I have ever done! We are so happy for Jon and Jan!!!
